Lesson 37

Lesson 37 - The Letter (part 2)

The Letter (Part 2)

Lesson Goals:

♦ Review the Am, F, G, D, E and C chords
♦ Become familiar with the chord progression for the bridge
♦ Play the whole song

In this lesson we will first work on the bridge and then play the whole song.

Take a look at the chart below for the bridge. The first 2 measures of "Am" are simply the end of the verse that we worked on in Lesson 36. The actual bridge starts on the 3rd measure with the "C" chord.

Notice that in the 3rd and 4th measures there are two chords per measure. Each chord will get two beats so you will be transitioning fairly quickly. The same holds true for the 7th and 8th measures.

Do a practice run through the bridge until you are comfortable with it.

Now let's take a look at both the verse chords and the bridge chords put together into the whole song. Let's play it!

Lesson 37 Summary

Pay close attention to the bridge chords where there are two chords per measure. It can get a little tricky trying to play these fast. As always, take this real slow to begin with and gradually increase your tempo.

Jam Tip!

If you want to really have fun and mix it up a bit, pull up Joe Cocker's version off of his 1970 "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" album. It gets pretty funky...check it out!
