Lesson 27 - Love Me Do

Love Me Do

Lesson Goals:

♦ Review G, C and D chords
♦ Learn to play "Love Me Do"

This is another popular Beatles classic that is a 3 chord progression.

You will notice that the song structure is a little different on this one as compared to our discussion in the last lesson. In "Love Me Do" the song starts off with the chorus which repeats until it comes to a bridge section where the song changes chords.

In this type of song the bridge almost resembles a verse. Some might call this song an AABA (chorus, chorus, bridge, chorus) structure, and the Beatles were famous for writing songs like this.

There are two charts below. The first one is the main part of the song throughout the choruses. the second one is the bridge section and at this point they should be fairly self explanatory.

As always, take it slow to start and play around with some rhythmic variations.

Chorus

love me do 01

Bridge

love me do 2 01

Lesson 27 Summary

Play through this song a few times. You are probaly already familiar with the song from hearing it over the years. Once you are comfortable with reading the chart, try playing the song without looking at the chart. Work on getting used to hearing and feeling the chord changes and where they should occur. This is a great way to start training your ear.

Jam Tip!

You will find that by playing the G chord in the position using the 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 6th string, the 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the 5th string, and the 4th finger on the 3rd fret of the 1st string, that the transition back and forth between the G and C chords will go much more smoothly.
