Lesson 59

Lesson 59 - Blues Rhythm Riff (2)

Blues Rhythm Riff (part 2)

Lesson Goals:

♦ Learn the A5 in the first position
♦ Learn the A5 in the second position
♦ Play the riff alternating between first and second position

In this lesson you will learn how to play the A5 positions of the Blues Rhythm riff.

If you already have the last lesson down then this one will be easy!

The A5 chord in the first and second positions is exactly identical to the E5 from the last lesson only now you will play everything on the next string down.

Take a look at the first position of the A5 on the diagram below.

Play this two note chord with the open 5th (A) string and place your 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string.

Now let's look at the A5 in the second position. It is also just like the E5 in the last lesson, only this time it is played one string position down.

In the TAB below we will play the A5 alternating between the first and second position, similar to what we did with the E5 positions in the last lesson.

Lesson 59 Summary

Before moving on you should be able to play this blues riff cleanly and clearly with no buzzing or fret noise. Don't forget to keep the other four strings muted so they don't make noise while playing the riff.

Jam Tip!

Once you are comfortable playing the A5 positions in the blues rhythm riff try putting it together with the last lesson. Start doing the E5 riff just like Lesson 58 then transition to the A5 riff. You will start to hear the blues pattern coming together.
