Naming the Notes on the 5th String
Lesson Goals:
♦ Learn the note positions for the whole notes on the 5th string
♦ Be able to easily identify the notes using position markers
Using what you learned in the previous lessons you have probably already figured this one out but let’s take a moment and go over it.
We know that the open 5th string is an “A”. We also know that the space between an “A” and “B” is a whole step which is 2 frets up. That puts “B” at the 2nd fret.
We also remember that there is always a half step between “B” and “C” so that means the next fret (3rd) is “C”.
And of course from “C” to “D” is a whole step, so that means that two frets up from “C” is the “D” note on the 5th fret.
Note: Just like we learned in the last lesson, the note in between A & B is either A# (A sharp) or Bb (B flat). The note in between C & D is either
C# (C sharp) or Db (D flat).
