Lesson 29

Lesson 29 - 6th String Sharps and Flats

6th String Sharps & Flats

Lesson Goals:

♦ Learn the note positions for the sharps and flats on the 6th string
♦ Be able to easily identify the notes using position markers

What about the notes in between F & G and G & A? These in between notes are known as sharps (#) or flats (b).

The space in between F and G is either F# (F sharp) or Gb (G flat). Either one is the same note, and what you call it depends on what key or scale you are playing in.

The space in between G and A is either G# (G sharp) or Ab (A flat). Again, depending on what key or scale you are playing.

At this stage you don’t have to know whether to call the sharps or flats by one name or the other. Either one is correct.

For now just remember where the main notes are located and the rest will fall into place.
