Lesson 24

Lesson 24 - C-A-G-E-D

Major Open Chords (C-A-G-E-D)

Lesson Goals:

♦ Review the major open chords
♦ Understand the CAGED method and application

If you have made it this far then congratulations are in order! You have just crossed a huge milestone by learning all the major open chords. That’s a big step.

The major open chords on the guitar can be referred to by the acronym CAGED. Throughout the first part of this course you have learned the C, A, G, E and D chords and have played them all in various songs.

It is important to be aware of the CAGED method because these 5 chord patterns form the basis for all other chords on the guitar. In other words, any chord that is played anywhere on the neck can be traced back to its foundation in the CAGED method. A further discussion at this stage is not necessary, just keep this in mind for future use.

Lesson 24 Summary

Keep working on visualizing the chord patterns. It is much more important to be able to recall the "patterns" of the chords than to name the actual notes in the chords. Keep working on this until you can play all of the chords you have learned so far without referring to the diagrams.
