Lesson 15 - D Major Chord

D Major Chord

Lesson Goals:

♦ Learn proper fingering for the D major chord
♦ Play the D chord clearly
♦ Visualize chord pattern

In today's lesson we will learn the D major chord.

The D chord is formed by placing the 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the 3rd string, the 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 2nd string, and the 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the 1st string.

Now let’s try playing the D chord. Concentrate on getting your left hand fingers in position and making sure each note sounds clearly. Don’t worry too much about right hand technique , just strum the chord with your pick or thumb.

Lesson 15 Summary

Take a few minutes to work on the D chord. The chord should sound clear with no buzzing or fret noise. Also practice visualizing the chord pattern. You should be able to recall the chord pattern without looking at the chart.

Jam Tip!

A key point in playing this chord is that the D is played using only 4 strings, the 1st through the 4th. The 5th and 6th strings should be muted.
